Barbara’s homecoming

While The First Universalist Church of Camp Hill was celebrating homecoming Sunday, Oct. 25, B.J. and others in the Taylor family were bringing Barbara Taylor home from Birmingham, where she had undergone open-heart surgery the previous Tuesday. On that day, doctors performed a triple bypass operation to relieve arterial blockage, and her recovery is proceeding as anticipated.

Barbara’s doctors in Alexander City recommended the procedure after a heart catherization revealed significant blockage in at least three arteries. At a Monday, Oct. 19, consultation with her cardiovascular surgeon in Birmingham, surgery was scheduled for the next day.

Barbara hasn’t been well for the past few months. The seriousness was evident when she did not feel strong enough to attend the annual church business meeting in September. Despite assorted tests, the exact source of her discomfort was elusive until the catherization; we hope doctors now have identified her problems and have corrected them.

Before surgery, the doctors did tell Barbara that the valves and muscles of her heart are strong and healthy.

Anyone who knows anything about our fellowship does not need to be reminded how much Barbara means to us. When she has heart problems, we have heart problems. We’ll be pulling and praying for both Barbara and B.J.

Welcome Home, Barbara! Homecoming didn’t seem quite right without you there (neither did the Annual Meeting in September). While the Church’s Home Coming was a wonderful event, your home coming is even better. We all have great faith in the strength and soundness of your heart. We look forward to seeing you when next we meet. I am so glad you are home. Take care.

I will be thinking of Barbara as she heals and hope by now she is feeling stronger and doing well. She and B.J. were so kind to my husband and me in March of 2008, when we first met concerning the history of our Harper Ancestors. We were warmly embraced and felt like we had known them for years.
Our very best to Barbara, B.J. and their family.
    Sincerely, Sherry”Harper” and Allan Coleman
